                A graphic novel account of the life of Laika, the first dog

           Almond, David, 1951-.  The savage.  1st U.S. ed.  Cambridge,

                Mass. : Candlewick Press, 2008.  A boy tells about a story

                he wrote when dealing with his father's death about a savage

                kid living in a ruined chapel in the woods--and the tale

                about the savage kid coming to life in the real world.

                graphic novel in which Rorschach, an aging superhero, digs

           Satrapi, Marjane, 1969-.  Persepolis.  1st American ed.  New York

                : Pantheon, c2003.  Contains black-and-white comic strip

                images in which the author shares the story of her life in

                Tehran, Iran, where she lived from ages six to fourteen

                while the country came under control of the Islamic regime.

                When twelve-year-old Hugo, an orphan living and repairing

                meets a mysterious toyseller and his goddaughter, his

                undercover life and his biggest secret are jeopardized.

                York : First Second, 2007.  The daughter of a renowned

                archeologist and the well-preserved Imhotep IV, who has just

                woken up after a 3,000 year sleep, fall in love, but many

                things stand in their way, not the least of which is her

                father, whose plans for Imhotep include putting him on

                permanent display at the British museum. Presented in

                graphic novel format.

           Shanower, Eric.  Age of bronze.  Orange, CA : Image, c2001.  The

                first in a graphic novel series detailing the events of the

                mythological Trojan War, this volume tells of Paris'

                discovery that he is actually Alexander, Prince of Troy, his

                abduction of Helen of Sparta, and the launching of the

                thousand ships from Sparta that marked the beginning of the

                war.

           Shanower, Eric.  Age of bronze.  Orange, CA : Image, c2004.  The

                author presents a graphic novel about the story and legend

                of the Trojan War combining archaeological evidence of the

                Late Bronze Age with the legendary stories of Helen of Troy.

           Spiegelman, Art.  Maus I : a survivor's tale : my father bleeds

                history.  New York : Pantheon Books, c1986.  A memoir about

                Vladek Spiegleman, a Jewish survivor of Hitler's Europe, and

                about his son, a cartoonist who tries to come to terms with

                his father, his story, and with history itself. Cartoon

                format portrays Jews as mice and Nazis as cats.

           Spiegelman, Art.  Maus II : a survivor's tale : and here my

                troubles began.  New York : Pantheon Books, c1991.  A

                continuation of the story begun in the Pulitzer Prize

                winning "Maus," in which the author relates, in cartoon

                form, his father's experiences as an inmate at Auschwitz

                during World War II.

                c2003.  In the third century, young Nagi, enslaved as a boy

                by invaders who kill the rest of his village, grows into a

                warrior and sets out to hunt the phoenix in order to drink

                her blood and gain immortality.

           Toriyama, Akira, 1955-.  Dragon Ball.  Shonen Jump graphic novel

                ed.  San Francisco : Viz Media, [2003].  In their search for

                seven Dragon Balls, Goku and Bulma encounter several

                obstacles, including the Turtle Hermit, the shapeshifter

                Oolong, the bandit Yamcha, and the Ox King of Frypan

                Mountain.

           Toriyama, Akira, 1955-.  Dragon Ball.  Shonen Jump Graphic Novel

                ed.  San Francisco : Viz, c2003.  Intrigue surrounds the

                "Strongest-Under-the-Heavens" Martial Arts Tournament as

                Tenshinhan tries to avenge his master, whose brother was

                killed by Goku.

           Winick, Judd.  Pedro and me : friendship, loss, and what I

                learned.  1st ed.  New York : H. Holt, c2000.  In graphic

                art format, describes the friendship between two roommates

                on the MTV show "Real World," one of whom died of AIDS.

741.5 WOO  NEW TITLE 2008/2009                                      

           Wood, Don, 1945-.  Into the volcano : a graphic novel.  New York

                : Blue Sky Press, c2008.  While their parents are away doing

                research, brothers Duffy and Sumo Pugg go with their cousin,

                Mister Come-and-Go, to KokalahaIsland, where they meet Aunt

                Lulu and become trapped in an erupting volcano.

           Yazawa, Ai.  Paradise kiss.  Los Angeles : Tokyopop, c2002.

                Yukari has always tried not to stand out, but when she meets

                a drag queen and a pierced punk, she finds herself drawn
